With its windswept peak rising to an elevation of 1922 metres above sea level, Mount Feathertop rests on the roof of Victoria as the state's second highest mountain. Spectacular throughout the year, the view across Mount Feathertop is particularly stunning during the winter months, as temperatures plummet and regular snowfalls transform the landscape into a winter wonderland.
Encouraged by good snowfalls in recent days and a promising forecast, I made my way up Mount Hotham praying for good weather and a spectacular sunset. Arriving late in the afternoon, I was delighted to discover that the promise of good weather had come to fruition. A gentle breeze swirled across the mountain, while scattered cloud drifted slowly overhead. Drawn to a small clump of snow gums, I quickly discovered this wonderful composition encompassing Mount Feathertop, the Razorback and Mount Buffalo. With the day fading rapidly and the last red rays of sunlight dancing off the clouds and across the mountain, I fired my shutter capturing a wonderfully peaceful moment in a harsh and unpredictable landscape.
